How Much do You Know About the Classification of Car Speakers?

Car speakers are basically divided into two categories. The first category is coaxial or full-range speakers. These speakers have more than one driver, allowing them to produce a wider sound frequency. Most of the original speakers that come with the car are coaxial speakers. The other type is the component speaker; this type of speaker has only one driver, and each unit speaker only provides high, medium or low frequency sound.

Super Tweeters

This type of tweeter can emit an ultrasonic spectrum that exceeds the normal audible spectrum of humans. It can produce sound frequencies higher than 2000Hz, thus allowing super tweeters to produce distortion-free high notes.

Subwoofers

Like tweeters, subwoofers also provide a high-quality and extreme sound spectrum. Consumer-grade subwoofers can produce sound frequencies from 20 to 200Hz, but professional-grade subwoofers can target frequencies below 80Hz.

Coaxial Speaker

This type of speaker can produce a full-frequency spectrum and uses more than one driver on one unit. The purpose is to save money and space. Usually this type of speaker is to fix the tweeter on the woofer. It also has a three-way structure (that is, the high, mid and low frequencies are also on one speaker). Coaxial car speakers appeared as early as the 1970s. Usually, the original sound system will be equipped with full-range speakers. Of course, other famous brands also provide this type of coaxial speaker for purchase.

Which one is best?

It is difficult to compare driver speakers and coaxial speakers, because each has its own advantages:

The advantage of coaxial speakers is that they are more economical and can be installed directly at the location of the original speakers without the need for a crossover. The advantage of unit speakers is that the sound quality is excellent and there are some changes. There is no denying that the timbre of driver speakers is superior to that of coaxial speakers. However, coaxial speakers are relatively flat and easy to install in place. If price and ease of installation are the key points, then coaxial speakers are a good choice, although they are still far from the sound quality of super unit speakers!

Although the unit speakers are not easy to install, the sound quality and changeable installation modes allow each speaker to be installed in a unique position, which can produce the best sound field in different types of cars. If sound quality is more important than price, then unit speakers are the inevitable choice.
